Proof of Work Vetting for Anti-Cult Operations
I propose a method of vetting Iron Fleet members. I expect it will serve to prevent, in large part, infiltration by elements attempting to sabotage our work. I also expect it will motivate members to volunteer and engage when Iron Fleet operations are undertaken. And it should allow members to remain pseudonymous while working.
First procedure: Anyone may join, so long as they're attested by 2 existing members, so long as no existing members actively object to their joining, and the person has not been banned from the group in the past. A person who faces active objection can only join after a discussion, and a plurality of vetted members agree to allow their membership. A person who has been banned can only be reinstated after a discussion, a majority of vetted members agreeing to their reinstatement, and no vetted member actively objecting to their reinstatement.
Second Procedure: Bars are awarded to members in recognition of three categories of contribution to the cause. These will decorate anywhere the member's alias is posted, and a physical badge or trinket will be made if so desired. Bars are not a symbol of rank, hierarchy, or station. They are only for recording and showing, at a glance, the member's contribution to the battle against the Death Cult. Bars are awarded in three colors: Blue, Silver, and Red, symbolizing three categories of contribution: Service, Support, and Sacrifice.
Blue Bars are awarded for hours of Service to the cause. Time spent working in the community in the name of the Iron Fleet, and working on Iron Fleet Projects is applicable. All work should be done with at least one other Iron Fleet member to attest, preferably in collaboration. Collaborating remotely via a call or message updates is acceptable. Collaborating in person is preferred.
- The first Blue Bar is awarded after 8 hours of service
- The Second Blue Bar is awarded after 40 hours of service
- The Third Blue Bar is awarded after 200 hours of service
- The Fourth Blue Bar is awarded after 2000 hours of service
Silver Bars are awarded for monetary and material Support for the cause. Silver bars are awarded for donations of money, supplies, tools, equipment, and anything else with unambiguous monetary value. Unambiguous means there should not be controversy among vetted members as to what a donation is worth, or whether it counts as a donation at all. Donations to organizations and individuals outside the Fleet CAN count towards awarding Silver Bars on two conditions: 1)The donation is made in Iron Front/Iron Fleet's name. and 2)There is no community objection to doing so.
- The First Silver Bar is awarded for donations totalling $100
- The Second Silver Bar is awarded for donations totalling $1,000
- The Third Silver Bar is awarded for donations totalling $10,000
- The Fourth Silver Bar is awarded for donations totalling $100,000
Red Bars are awarded to recognize outstanding Sacrifice for the cause. Red bars should recognize things like injury, putting oneself at great risk, rendering aid, being subject to state violence, and acts of outstanding character. Members may be nominated for Red Bars by vetted community members. The decision to award red bars is to be made by community consensus.
- The First Red Bar should be awarded somewhat freely
- The Second Red Bar should reflect extraordinary circumstances
- The Third Red Bar should reflect life-changing consequences
- The Fourth Red Bar should reflect a lifetime of achievement
Third Procedure: A member is considered "Vetted" when they've been awarded 3 bars. Vetted members get a vote on new Fleet operations, new members, censure of members, reinstating banned and censored members, rule changes, and are generally considered trustworthy within operations. Vetted members are expected to maintain operational security, and are to be included in planning discussions for new and ongoing Fleet Missions.
